THE TIMELESS SWORDSMITH’S
ART OF ENTERTAINMENT, JAPAN

Firing up the forge, shaping the block of steel, pounding the iron. A thousand-year-old craft and inquiry passed down through the ages.
Asano Kajiya carries on the spirit and technique of Japanese swordsmithing, the world's oldest existing technical tradition.
A sword is more than mere artwork; it's a tool entrusted with life. Strong, flexible, and capable of cutting well. Only when possessing all these traits can it rightfully be called a "sword." The essence of forging lies in achieving functionality, a source of pride for the smith. Simultaneously, a sword acts as a mirror reflecting one's spirit: determination, respect, prayers for peace, the will to protect, loyalty, and pride. The swordsmith's art has shaped these "invisible elements" into tangible form through rigorous practice.
Asano Kajiya continues this lineage of spirit into the modern day, continually questioning why blades are forged, just as the master smiths did. Rather than merely inheriting refined techniques from predecessors, we overlay them with thought and imagination. Sensitivity, quenching, time—uncertainty pervades this technical system, subject to diverse conditions and intentions. Rather than chasing beauty outright, beauty emerges naturally from the harmony of form, blade pattern, and iron composition. Each blade, distinct in both form and spirit, embodies this coexistence of uncertainty and perfection, imbuing the sword with its essential presence.
We persist as "artisans" conveying the smith's inquiries and spirituality. Embedding joy of creation, spirit, and emotion into each piece, forging them across time to etch deeply into people's memories as enduring echoes.
